Corns and Callus

Hyperkeratosis is the body's natural defence against focal shear and compressive forces, but progressive tissue accumulation often creates a localized focal point of high pressure, leading to pain or tissue breakdown.

Comprehensive Management Plan

  • Debridement & Reduction: Professional sharp debridement (paring) safely removes the hyperkeratotic tissue and enucleates the central core without damaging the surrounding healthy dermis.

  • Biomechanical & Etiological Assessment: Identify underlying causes, such as prominent metatarsal heads, hammertoe deformities, hallux valgus, gait abnormalities, or ill-fitting footwear.

  • Pressure Redistribution: Implement offloading strategies using custom orthotics, targeted metatarsal pads, silicone toe separators, or footwear modifications to eliminate recurring focal friction.

  • Skin & Ulcer Prevention: Establish routine moisturizing regimens (e.g., urea-based topicals) and ongoing skin monitoring to prevent breakdown and open wound formation.

Heidi can not only help alleviate the discomfort by reducing the corn or callus, but she can also help to identify the cause and support you to manage it, thus limiting recurrence.
